Competitive Spirit | Victory Karate

Welcome Resources Instructor Enrollment Members Victory

"Training in the martial arts has enlightened me so much in my life. I was an average student in high school. I made honor roll every semester after I started training in the martial arts. Martial arts taught me discipline, respect and confidence. I have used many of the martial arts principles to live my daily life. I am hoping to pass on these valuable lessons to my kids."

MBA, MCSE, MCSA

Competitive Spirit

"Besides being a good way to work off stress, the confidence and sense of accomplishment I've gained in practicing martial arts has carried over into many other pursuits and interest in my life. I highly recommend the class to anyone up for the challenge.

If I'd known how good it was going to be for me, I'd have started taking Kenpo years ago. I'm in the best shape I've ever been, right now."

Marvin J.
Visual Effects Artist

"My job keeps me in front of a computer all day but I've managed to drop 20 pounds since I started! I like the fact that it's not just kicking and punching; I'm learning something and having fun doing it. I'm not a 'work out at the gym' kind of person but I enjoy the opportunity to get a good workout once a week in a friendly, motivating atmosphere."

Ben H.
Project Coordinator

"I didn't know that the Martial Arts could be practiced with the blessings of God. All I knew was that I used to practice the arts well over 8 years ago, and left before mastering it. I tried to go back, but once I had experienced the peace of the Lord it was difficult to see how an aggressive art could be incorporated into a Christian's life. Meeting with 'Sensei' has shown me how I can train with God's full blessings and have the peace of the Lord in my heart. I leave each training session spiritually fed and inspired. It has made all the difference in my training and in my life."

William B.
Network Engineer

"Thank you so much for the karate training. It has been such a delightful and valuable experience. I feel much more equipped to defend myself and my family should the need arise. Thank you for being such an encouragement - as a teacher and as a person. Thank you for your devotion to making each one of us succeed."

Dear Friend,

Welcome to Victory Karate. If you are looking for a way to find:

  • Greater productivity, effectiveness, & success in your personal & professional life;

  • Inspiration through achievement;

  • Unshakable self discipline, self respect, self control, and self confidence;

  • Increased strength and stamina in both body AND mind;

  • Infinite peace & courage;

  • Improved focus;

  • God's presence and Biblical application outside of the church walls;

... all while having FUN and learning the techniques that can protect you and your loved ones, then VK might be just what you're looking for.

No other sport or activity will challenge and cultivate your mind, body, soul, and spirit like the martial arts. I know, because I've been doing this for over 25 years and have 2 Black Belt world titles. I have also been training and coaching people just like you for over 20 years - men, women, & children who have gone on to become successful doctors, lawyers, engineers, athletes, entrepreneurs... successful professionals at every level, as well as successful husbands & wives, mothers & fathers - all because they were able to apply martial arts principles with a Biblical foundation to their lives.

Before we go on, let's get a few things clear.

What VK is NOT: We are not a commercial school; we are not a "belt factory", aerobic kickboxing, or a social or political clique; we are not engrained with Eastern Mysticism or New Age, self-centered philosophies; and we are not filled with rampant ego and testosterone. If this is what you are looking for, then VK is not for you.

So what exactly is VK? Why do men and women like you choose to train at VK?

Physical Conditioning
Regardless of what shape you're in now, come just as you are and let us help you with the rest. Unlike any other workout, VK develops all 3 major aspects of physical conditioning at the same time:

Muscular Development: Tone and build muscle. Improve your posture and your appearance. Sleep better at night.

Cardiovascular Endurance: Stengthen your heart and lungs. Increase your bloodflow and energy level.

Flexibility: Reduce your risk for injury. Be free from lower back pain. Have freedom of movement.

All while teaching you the techniques on how to effectively defend yourself. And statistics show that those who know how to defend themselves are far less likely to get into a confrontation because of the confidence they are able to convey from the inside out.

Fun & Challenging
When it is fun AND challenging, you will be more consistent and enthusiastic. You will look forward to each class. You will see the results happening for yourself, which will make you want to keep coming back for more.

Encouraging & Inspiring
In Hawaii, they use the term ohana. In VK, we use the term family. We are family, brought together to help one another. We are able to achieve our goals and beyond because we lift up and support each other.

Practical & Engaging
VK is based on Ed Parker's American Kenpo system. It is comprehensive and practical, able to adapt to change and develop over time. It incorporates basic strikes, blocks, and kicks through self defense techniques, forms, and freestyle sparring.

Self Defense Techniques: Practical applications to various attacks. Learn the specific theories necessary in hand to hand combat on the street.

Forms: Self defense techniques arranged in a particular sequence. Develop your stamina, coordination, and focus.

Freestyle sparring: Utilize the theories of combat and apply them in the ring in a controlled, dynamic atmosphere.

Combine this with the joint locks & grappling of Jujitsu, and the result is a very balanced fighter (Kenpo is said to be America's first Mixed Martial Art): one who is in top physical condition, able to compete at the highest level, and convey confidence in all areas of life, including any self defense situations.

Students are also encouraged to know "Why?" & "How?" rather than just following blindly. At VK, we develop leaders who will one day pass on the knowledge and develop leaders of their own. At the same time, VK maintains the philosophy that the learning never stops, and that we will always be students. "The road to excellence is always under construction."

Independent, non-commercial, non-affiliated, and non-political
Have peace of mind knowing that at VK you're not just a number to help pay an upline association. The focus is to train hard and train smart, to grow as a person and as a group. Remember, at VK, you're part of our family.

We get invited to attend various events that cross all lines, whether different associations, affiliations, and even styles. We freely enjoy the best of all worlds.

Biblically based
At VK, we learn to be Peacemakers & exhibit the Fruit of the Spirit, even in the midst of strife. Learn how to respond to anger and hate with love.

Semi-private (Lots of 1-on-1 attention!)
At VK, we're not interested in numbers. We want quality. And when the head instructor can tend to you regularly 1-on-1, well, the results speak for themselves. Just read below.

Only once a week!

Yes, that's right. We only meet once a week. Why pay extra money to a commercial school for fancy painted trim or extra classes you won't have time to go to anyways? You should be paying for the knowledge and experience of the teaching.

We train hard, but we also train smart. Your body can't take the constant stress of training everyday, especially if you also enjoy doing other activities, such as biking, lifting weights, or playing basketball. We train hard one day per week, then you can review the material 2-3 times per week on your own time as your body recovers. This training methodology has worked for me for over 20 years (And remember, I have 2 Black Belt world titles); it works for my students (most of which are married, some with children); and it will work for you.

If you think that by having class only once a week that you won't be "as good" as someone training in a commercial school, guess again. The results speak for themselves: We compete alongside those same commercial schools - and have even greater success! We have placed in every competition we have entered. And not just in one category, but in all events, including sparring, forms, and self defense.

So if this sounds good to you, then you need to contact me to see if you would be a good fit with our group. To be honest, while everyone is welcome to come by and check us out, we're only looking for the select few men & women who feel a calling to be a part of our group.

We don't have nice floors, shiny mirrors, or fancy pagoda trim. And we don't have classes 6 or 7 days a week. These items are nice, but certainly not necessary to make you a successful martial artist. I should know; some of the best training in my life has been done in churches and garages. It's not the location and cosmetics that are important. It's the teacher and the knowledge that is passed down; it's the encouragement and support of the other students; it's the inspiration from training hard, training smart, and accomplishing your goals.

So if you want to:

  • Train with a 2 time world champion;

  • Be part of an encouraging atmosphere where you have the freedom to learn;

  • Get a great workout that challenges all of your mind, body, emotions, and spirit;

  • Know what it feels like to exceed your own expectations;

  • Walk taller than you ever have before;

  • Know what it means to have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control, even in the midst of battle;

  • Experience God's power and presence in your life outside of the church walls

... then you need to contact me. God is calling you. A person of your caliber needs to be a part of our group.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to meeting you soon.

P.S. I am personally inviting you to take part in this exciting opportunity. I fully believe in what we do, and I know you will too. What we do is not fancy, but no one can discount the results. Email me now and get a free class to see just how fun & inspiring the journey can be.

Or, if you'd rather have direct 1-on-1 personal attention, then try private training. Private training gives you more intensive study, and allows YOU to dictate what material you want to cover, whether self defense techniques, sparring, forms, competition, or effective strength and conditioning. As a result, you will accelerate much faster than those who just attend class. Privates are also accomodating to your schedule, and allow you to attend the regular group class for free. Email me now and get a free personal consultation to see if private training with me would be right for you.

Join now, whether the class or private training, and if after 1 month you feel like this isn't for you, then I will personally refund you your money, no questions asked. In fact,since I feel such a conviction that everyone should be involved in some sort of martial arts training, I will personally contact my entrusted circle of colleagues to help you find what you're looking for. You can't lose. (unless you decide to do nothing!) Contact me right now and make one of the best decisions of your life!

P.P.S. Read my articles, "Don't sweat it when others lose their cool, part 1" and "part 2", and "Is There CHI in CHRIST?", from Faith & Fitness Magazine.

P.P.P.S. Are you a pastor, youth leader, or church member who would like to have a special self defense seminar for your church or ministry? It's a great outreach opportunity that offers practical steps ANYONE can do (and EVERYONE should be doing), and introduces the non-believer to a practical model of spiritual warfare. It is a fun, interactive workshop (1-2 hours over 1 or 2 days) that can be focused towards adults, youth, even seniors. It is a must for living without fear in this fallen world. Contact me for more info or to schedule an event for your group!

P.P.P.P.S. Are you a coach, manager, pastor, teacher, or administrator looking for a inspirational speaker for your team, church or organization? Share a unique and encouraging message with your group! Possible topics include (but are not limited to):

  • The 3 P's to becoming a champion

  • Finding CHI in CHRIST

  • Developing Godly responses to anger

  • Personal testimony with martial arts demonstration

Contact me for more info or to schedule a speech for your organization!

P.P.P.P.P.S. Maybe you're not into martial arts, but you are a sports athlete who wants to be at your competitive best, and you need the spiritual discipline of Christian martial arts training. If so, then check out my coaching program based on my Christian championship martial arts experience and knowledge called Competitive Spirit. Have greater joy & peace when competing, more consistent championship-level performance, a more balanced home life, a renewed Faith in God, and a new passion for the game.
